Whats included in construction/ post-construction cleans at my business

Jun 26, 2025

Construction cleaning can be done during or after a project.

It is smartest to schedule the post-construction clean because if drywall dust is traveling from room to room, you’re going to pay me to clean those rooms twice — and you work too hard for your money!

I use a HEPA DeWalt wet/dry vacuum for debris, dust, and water removal.

If you choose construction cleaning (during the project) instead of post-construction cleaning, I will:

  • Pick up debris using construction bags (wood, metal, etc.)

  • Sweep and vacuum

  • Remove sticker labels

  • Wipe fixtures, door frames, and walls

  • Clean inside and outside of cabinets

  • Clean windows and glass

  • Clean window sills and tracks

  • Remove dust and clean/sanitize bathroom fixtures

  • Spot-clean smudges and fingerprints before walkthroughs

  • Dust blinds

  • Vacuum dust out of corners and crevices (a shop vacuum works great for this and saves your back from bending and picking debris up)

  • Clean inside closets

  • Clean tops of appliances and shelves

  • Clean exhaust fan covers

  • Steam-clean toilets

  • Steam-clean fixtures

  • Clean cabinet hinges (steam is sometimes used to push dust out)

  • Clean ceiling fan blades (up to 8 feet high)

  • Clean range hood filters

  • Pull out the stove and refrigerator to clean behind them (walls and appliances)

  • Clean inside and outside of the microwave

  • Clean grout lines (they hold a lot of dust, so we vacuum and wipe them out)

  • Remove paint using a razor blade when appropriate

  • Vacuum, degrease, and wipe grout to prevent haze, checking from multiple angles

  • Mop floors (water is changed frequently so you’re not left with hazy floors)

  • Vacuum up screws and nails

What are the biggest complaints about construction cleanups?

Here’s what people commonly report being unhappy about:

  • Fine construction dust left on baseboards, trim, and vents

  • Dust settling again because surfaces weren’t properly wiped

  • HVAC vents not cleaned, causing dust to recirculate

  • Window tracks full of debris

  • Paint splatter left on floors or glass

  • Caulk smears on trim

  • Stickers and adhesive residue left on windows and appliances

  • Overspray not addressed

  • Grout haze left on tile

  • Fixtures not polished

  • Dust left inside cabinets

  • Appliance interiors skipped

  • Showing up late

  • Not understanding the scope of work

  • No checklist used

  • Disappearing when touch-ups are requested
